11 Simple Ways to Supercharge Your Time in the Now

be present.

Editor's Note: This is a contribution by Henri Juntilla

"To be alive is to totally and openly participate in the simplicity and elegance of here and now." ~Donald Altman

Five years ago, my life was a mess compared to now. I was anxious, worried, afraid, and running away from my feelings—I was running away from the present moment.

So, what happened?

I started applying what I knew, which were really simple things, such as breathing, visualization, and being aware of my thought patterns.

I haven't found the Holy Grail, I simply took action. I had no idea how much my life was about to change, I just knew something had to change, because the way I was living (and feeling) wasn't cutting it.

I'd had enough of suffering. I wanted more. I'm not perfect, no one is, but I'm moving forward. If you'd like to do the same, I recommend:

1. Breathe.

What would an article about being present be without breathing at the top?

I stumbled onto old Buddhist texts early on in my life, and they emphasized breathing, so I started doing that.

At first it was hard, because my mind was racing all over the place, but after a while I became aware of the muscles and subtle energy sensations in my body.

When I focused on one part of my body, I started noticing a tingling of energy there. When I anchored myself into this very moment through my breath, I felt good, sometimes amazingly good.

2. Know your triggers.

I also started noticing triggers in my life. I noticed the small things that suddenly, almost out of nowhere, had me feeling angry, depressed, or even irritated.

I had a lot of triggers around my parents. (Don't we all?) My mother might have walked into the room and just looked at me a certain way, and I would spiral into a sea of irritation.

This is what I call a trigger. Triggers ca...

All about RSS (Really Simple Syndication)

Using RSS feeds

Here are answers to some common questions about RSS feeds.

Show contentHide content What is an RSS feed?

RSS feeds provide frequently updated content published by a website. They are commonly used for news and blog websites, but are also used for distributing other types of digital content, including pictures, audio, or video. Feeds can also be used to deliver audio content (usually in MP3 format) which you can listen to on your computer or portable device. This is referred to as podcasting.
A feed can have the same content as a webpage, but it's often formatted differently. When you subscribe, Internet Explorer automatically checks the website and downloads new content so you can see what is new since you last visited the feed.

Show contentHide content How do I know if a website offers feeds?

When you first view a website, Internet Explorer will search for feeds. If feeds are available, the Feeds button Picture of the Feeds button will change color and a sound will play.

Show contentHide content How do I view a feed?

When you visit a webpage, the Feeds button Picture of the Feeds button will change color, letting you know that feeds are available. Click the Feeds button, and then click the feed you want to see. If the website offers Web Slices as well, you'll see the Web Slice button Picture of the Web Slice button. To get content automatically, you should subscribe to a feed. For more information on using Web Slices, see Customize your Favorites bar.

Show contentHide content How do I subscribe to a feed?

  1. Go to the website that has the feed you want to subscribe to.
  2. Click the Feeds button Picture of the Feeds button to discover feeds on the webpage.
  3. Click a feed (if more than one is available). If only one feed is available, you will go directly to that page.
  4. Click Subscribe to this feed.
  5. Type a name for the feed and select the folder to create the feed in.
  6. Click Subscribe.

Show contentHide content How do I add a feed to the Favorites bar?

To add a feed to the Favorites bar, subscribe to the feed, and then select the Add to Favorites Bar check box in the Subscribe to this Feed dialog box. If you've already subscribed to the feed, you can click the Add to Favorites Bar button Picture of the Add to Favorites Bar button to add the feed to the Favorites bar. To learn more about the Favorites bar, see Customize your Favorites bar.

Show contentHide content Does a feed subscription cost money?

No, it's usually free to subscribe to a feed.

Show contentHide content How can I view my subscribed feeds?

You view feeds on the Feeds tab in the Favorites Center. To view your feeds, click the Favorites button, and then click Feeds.

Show contentHide content Can other programs display my subscribed feeds?

Yes, Internet Explorer provides the Common Feed List to other programs. This allows you to subscribe to feeds with Internet Explorer and read them in other programs, such as an e‑mail program.

Show contentHide content What does RSS mean?

The acronym RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is used to describe the technology used in creating feeds.
